Xin Ge is an Associate Professor at the MD Anderson-UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, specializing in molecular medicine. He holds the Kay & Ben Fortson Distinguished Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease Research and is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at McGovern Medical School.
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, McMaster University
- M.S. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Tsinghua University
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University
Dr. Ge’s research focuses on developing biologics like monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), T-cell receptors (TCRs), and therapeutic enzymes. His lab engineers technologies such as synthetic antibody libraries, mammalian cell display, and functional selection to overcome limitations in protease inhibition and immunotherapy development. Current projects target MMP-9 for diabetic neuropathy, stroke, and SARS-CoV-2, alongside Fc engineering for enhanced immune receptor affinity.
His recent publications emphasize mammalian cell-based directed evolution, protease inhibitory antibody mechanisms, and immunotherapy applications for cancer, infections, and metabolic disorders. Topics include FcγR affinity optimization, CAR-T development, and MMP-14/MMP-9 targeting for pain and disease.
- Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (R35), NIGMS, 2021
- NSF CAREER Award, 2015
- NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, 2008
Dr. Ge has graduated 7 PhD and 7 MS students while mentoring 11 postdocs and 5 research scientists. His lab employs structure-aided design, repertoire deep sequencing, and recombinase-mediated transgene integration systems to engineer next-generation biologics for clinical translation.
