Xiaolei Liu, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, jointly affiliated with the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences and the Lemole Center for Integrated Lymphatics and Vascular Research. His work bridges vascular biology and cardiac pathophysiology, focusing on the therapeutic potential of cardiac lymphatics.
Research Interests: Dr. Liu's research investigates the development and function of cardiac lymphatic vessels in cardiovascular disease. Using genetic mouse models with altered lymphatic function, combined with high-throughput sequencing and advanced imaging technologies, his lab explores how cardiac lymphatics influence heart regeneration in neonates and repair in adults. This work aims to uncover molecular and cellular mechanisms that could lead to novel therapies for ischemic heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.
Scientific Awards:
- American Heart Association Career Development Award (2018–2022)
- Gordon Research Conference-Lymphatics Poster Award (2020)
- F1000 Travel Grant Award (2019)
- NAVBO Travel Award to 20th International Vascular Biology Meeting (2018)
- LE&RN Young Investigator Conference Scholarship Award (2016, 2018)
Education:
- PhD, Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK
Dr. Liu is an active member of professional organizations including the American Heart Association, North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO), and the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN). His lab, the Liu Lab, is dedicated to advancing understanding of the lymphatic system’s role in cardiovascular homeostasis and disease, positioning it at the forefront of translational vascular research.
