Xiaojian Bai is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Louisiana State University's Department of Physics & Astronomy within the College of Science. He holds dual Ph.D. degrees from Sogang University (2014) and Georgia Institute of Technology (2019). His research focuses on experimental condensed matter physics, particularly in strongly correlated materials using neutron spectroscopy and high-performance computing. Key areas include quantum/classical spin liquids, frustrated magnets, magnetic excitations, and multiferroics.
His work involves collaborations with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and global facilities. Bai's group employs advanced techniques like single-crystal growth, theoretical modeling, and neutron scattering to study emergent phenomena such as magnon bound states, orbital-selective Mott transitions, and spin density waves. Recent studies include investigations on FeI2, Ho3Mg2Sb3O14, and Dy3Mg2Sb3O14 systems.
Notable contributions include discoveries of hybridized quadrupolar excitations in frustrated magnets and field-tunable toroidal moments in chiral magnets. His research spans from fundamental material characterization to development of computational tools like CrysFieldExplorer.
Bai is based in Nicholson Hall, Baton Rouge, and can be reached at xbai@lsu.edu. His interdisciplinary approach bridges experimental and theoretical physics, with applications in materials science and quantum technologies.
