Xiao Liu

Dr. Xiao Liu serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute within the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials at the University of Wollongong, Australia, a position held since 2023.

Her research expertise spans:

• Biofabrication, with specialization in 3D cell printing
• Biomaterials design and development
• Drug delivery systems
• Neural stimulation applications
• Regenerative medicine including stem cell technologies

Dr. Liu maintains extensive translational research partnerships with major medical institutions including Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, Cochlear, Anatomics, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and ASAN Medical Center of South Korea. Her work has produced significant clinical applications such as bioprinting platforms for pancreatic islet transplantation and 3D porous scaffolds for bone regeneration.

Academic service includes membership on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Bioprinting and serving as Review Editor for Polymer Chemistry in Frontiers in Chemistry.

Dr. Liu actively supervises multiple Higher Degree Research students across diverse projects in bioprinting, biomaterials development, and tissue engineering applications, with current supervision including research on electrical stimulation for biofilm prevention.
