Xianlin Zheng serves as an Honorary Research Fellow at Macquarie University's School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, specializing in advanced luminescence bio-imaging technologies. With a PhD in bio-imaging instrument development from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP), Zheng contributes to cutting-edge research in nanomaterial-based diagnostics and imaging systems.
Research focuses on lanthanide-doped nanomaterials, time-gated luminescence imaging, and upconversion nanoparticle applications. Key areas include developing security inks, cancer cell detection systems, and 3D ultra-microscopy for deep-tissue imaging. Current projects explore nanocrystal-perovskite composites for energy applications and antibody-nanoparticle conjugates for diagnostic assays.
Recent publications (2022) reveal strong emphasis on
- Lanthanide nanoparticle surface engineering for enhanced luminescence
- Homogenization techniques in optical composites
- Time-resolved multiplexed detection systems
- Non-invasive cancer diagnostics using urinary biomarkers
Award highlights:
- MQ Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Excellence (2017)
- CYTO 2015 Student Travel Award
Active in research coordination, Zheng co-organized the 2020 BioNetwork Research Symposium on Dementia and contributes to three major projects: Advanced Lanthanide-Doped Nanomaterials for Security Inks (2020-2023), Fundamental Biophysics of Upconversion Nanoparticles (2020-2023), and 3D Ultra-Microscopy for Living Tissue Imaging (2019-2022).
