معرفی
Xianhui Bu is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University Long Beach, specializing in inorganic, solid state, and materials chemistry with a focus on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for advanced gas separation and storage applications.
Education
- Ph.D., University at Buffalo (1986-1991)
- Guangzhou English Language Center, Sun Yat-Sen University (1985-1986)
- B.S., Fudan University, Shanghai (1981-1985)
Professor Bu's research centers on pore-space partition in MOFs, where he pioneers ligand engineering and multi-modular framework design to achieve unprecedented selectivity in gas separation processes. His work integrates crystal engineering, coordination chemistry, and materials characterization to develop ultrastable porous materials for natural gas purification, acetylene storage, and CO2 capture. Key innovations include spiro ligand chemistry, dynamic pore control, and nanotrap architectures that enable benchmark performance in hydrocarbon separations.
His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate systematic advancement of pore-space-partitioned MOFs through isoreticular expansion, multi-stage pore optimization, and heterometallic integration. The research shows strong trends toward functionalizing frameworks with open-metal sites for photocatalytic CO2 reduction and developing water-stable materials for industrial gas processing, with consistent emphasis on structure-property relationships in porous materials.
Awards
- Inaugural Provost's Award, CSULB (2008)
- Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (2008)
- National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2009)
- Distinguished Faculty Scholarly & Creative Achievement Award, CSULB (2009)
Professor Bu leads an active research group supported by competitive grants including the NSF CAREER award. His group mentors students in synthetic chemistry and materials characterization, with research outputs spanning high-impact publications and patentable separation technologies. Current projects focus on electrocatalytic frameworks for energy conversion and scalable synthesis methods for industrial MOF applications.
Xianhui Bu's Group at CSULB operates as a collaborative hub for porous materials research, maintaining strong partnerships with national laboratories and industry stakeholders to translate fundamental discoveries into practical gas separation solutions for energy and environmental applications.
