Associate Professor Xiang-Yu Hou is currently Research Lead at Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health and Director of Research at Far West Local Health District NSW. She holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and medical degrees from Shandong University and Peking University in China.

Her research spans Rural Health, Health Services Management, Social Epidemiology, and Mental Health. Recent work focuses on Indigenous healthcare access, medication adherence in paramedic practices, and mental health disparities during the pandemic. She supervises Higher Degree Research students and serves as Editor for Aus J Rural Health and BMC Public Health.
Key publications (2023-2025) address Indigenous health equity, emergency medicine, and mental wellbeing in diverse populations. She has secured significant research funding, including $3 million in grants, and contributes to global health policy through projects in China, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.

She is a member of the Australasia Epidemiology Association since 2008, with international collaborations in China (Southeast University) and the United Arab Emirates (University of Sharjah).
