Dr. Xiang Bingxi serves as Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of Light Sources and Illumination at Shenzhen University of Technology's School of New Materials and New Energy. Recognized as a Shenzhen High-Level Professional Talent since 2018, he leads research in advanced photonic materials and devices.
His academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Shandong University (2015) and a B.S. in Applied Physics from Fuzhou University (2010). Postdoctoral training at Shenzhen University (2015-2018) preceded his faculty appointment at SZTU.
Xiang's research centers on thin-film lithium niobate photonic integrated circuits, two-dimensional material optoelectronic devices, and optical single crystal thin films. His work bridges nanofabrication techniques with optoelectronic applications, focusing on high-performance photodetectors, modulators, and integrated optical systems with industrial relevance.
Recent publications reveal a dominant trend in heterogeneously integrated photonics combining lithium niobate thin films with 2D materials (MoS2, MoTe2, SnSe2) to achieve breakthroughs in responsivity, dark current reduction, and self-powered operation. The research demonstrates strong translational potential for optical communications and sensing systems.
Key recognitions include:
- Shenzhen High-level Professional Talent (reserve level), 2018
- Natural Science Academic Achievement Award of Zibo City (First Prize, 2022)
- Outstanding Class Teacher of Shenzhen University of Technology (2022)
He has secured over 10 competitive research grants including NSFC Youth Fund and Shenzhen Basic Research Projects totaling >RMB 1.5 million. As Guest Editor for Photonics and Young Editor for Chip, he actively shapes the photonics research landscape while reviewing for 20+ journals. His leadership in the Department of Light Sources and Illumination drives industry-academia collaboration in new energy and photonic materials development.
