Xavier Didelot is a Professor of Statistical Epidemiology and Genomics at the University of Warwick, split between the School of Life Sciences and the Department of Statistics. He is also a Visiting Professor in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. His roles include Director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Genomics and Enabling Data, a collaboration with UK Health Security Agency, and Theme Leader in the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Modelling Methodology.
Education: PhD in Statistics from the University of Oxford, followed by postdoctoral research at the Universities of Warwick and Oxford.
Research focuses on understanding bacterial pathogen evolution and spread through genomic and epidemiological data analysis. He develops open-source software tools like ClonalFrameML, GenoPlast, and TransPhylo to analyze recombination, transmission dynamics, and pathogen population structures.
Key affiliations include the Zeeman Institute for Systems Biology & Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research (SBIDER) and the EPSRC Centre for Mathematics of Precision Healthcare.
