Xabier Irujo is a full professor and chair of the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. He holds dual PhDs in History and Philosophy, and three master’s degrees in Linguistics, History, and Political Philosophy. His roles include directorships, visiting lectureships (e.g., William Douglass Lecturer), and chair fellowships internationally. He advises graduate students and chairs PhD committees, focusing on genocide studies, Basque history, and cultural extermination.
- Education: PhDs from University of the Basque Country (2011, Philosophy) and University of Navarre (2004, History); master’s degrees from 1992–1998
Research interests span genocide studies (with a focus on physical/cultural extermination), Basque history and politics, exile dynamics, and transnational identity. He has published over 15 books and numerous articles, including seminal works on the Gernika bombing and Charlemagne’s defeat. Awards include the Gernika Prize for Peace (2018) and recognition from Basque and international institutions.
