Włodzimierz Piątkowski

Prof. Włodzimierz Piątkowski is Head of the Department of Social Health Problems at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University's Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology. He founded the Independent Laboratory of Medical Sociology at the Medical University of Lublin, leading it until 2017. His research spans sociology of health, medical sociology, health promotion, and ecosociology, with a strong focus on health policy and preventive care systems.

He coordinates major research initiatives including the OPUS3 grant on cytological screening participation in Poland and the international "Healthy Homes Barometer" project. As a Fulbright Commission consultant and ESHMS coordinator, he bridges academic and policy domains. His scholarly output includes 200+ publications and monographs like Beyond Medicine: Non-Medical Methods of Treatment in Poland.

He currently leads UMCS's participation in the Horizon 2020 project REINITIALISE, focusing on digital health rights. Prof. Piątkowski was elected to the UMCS Senate (2016–2020) and received the title of full professor from the President of Poland in 2022.
