Wolfram Volk

Prof. Wolfram Volk is a full Professor at the Chair of Forming Technology and Foundry Engineering at the Technische Universität München (TUM). He holds a Dipl.-Ing. from TU Darmstadt and a Dr.-Ing. from the University of Stuttgart. Prior to academia, he worked at BMW AG in roles involving forming technology, simulation, and product development. Since 2011, he has been leading research in metal forming and foundry engineering, focusing on simulation methods, continuous casting of light metals, and composite castings. His work emphasizes process optimization, material behavior under non-proportional loading, and innovative manufacturing techniques.

He develops advanced simulation tools and investigates material behavior under complex loading conditions. Key areas include residual stress utilization in manufacturing, hybrid casting techniques, and inline process monitoring systems.

Grants & Advising: He leads projects funded by the DFG Priority Programs (SPP 2013, SPP 2476), focusing on forming limits and residual stress applications. His team advises on industrial collaborations involving BMW, ThyssenKrupp, and other automotive partners.

Labs/Teams: His chair operates advanced facilities for material testing, forming simulations, and foundry technology, including labs for digital sand core physics and free-form bending.
