Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciencesمعرفی
Wolfram Ruf, MD is a Professor of Immunology in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in La Jolla, California. He holds an external appointment as the Margaret Thatcher Professor of Biological Chemistry at the Thrombosis Research Institute in London, UK. His work focuses on vascular biology, immunology, and the interplay between coagulation pathways and cellular signaling in cancer, inflammation, and angiogenesis.
Education:
- M.D., Justus-Liebig University, Giessen, Germany (1987)
Research Interests:
Ruf's laboratory investigates the non-coagulant signaling roles of the coagulation cascade, particularly the tissue factor (TF) pathway. Key areas include TF-driven signaling via protease-activated receptors (PARs), anti-apoptotic mechanisms of activated protein C, and the role of TF in angiogenesis, metastasis, and inflammation. His work integrates cell biology, molecular techniques, and transgenic animal models to elucidate signaling specificity and therapeutic targets.
Awards & Recognition:
- Over 15 prestigious awards, including the Otto-Hahn Medal (1988), Alexander von Humboldt Professorship (2013), and Distinguished Career Award (2015).
Labs & Collaborations:
The Ruf Lab at TSRI employs advanced genomic approaches and animal models to study protease pathways in cancer and thrombosis. Key collaborators include Barbara Mueller, Ph.D., and visiting scientists like Fahumiya Samad, Ph.D.
