Prof. Dr. Wolfram Pernice is a Professor at the University of Münster, affiliated with the Physics Institute and CeNTech. His research focuses on photonics, neuromorphic computing, quantum technologies, and optomechanical systems. He leads the Pernice Lab: Responsive Nanosystems, which explores integrated photonic circuits, phase-change materials, and neuromorphic hardware. Prof. Pernice participates in the 'Cells in Motion' initiative and supervises the CiM-IMPRS Graduate Programme. He has received an ERC Consolidator Grant and leads projects like PHOENICS (funded by Horizon 2020), aiming to develop energy-efficient photonic computing systems.
His educational contributions include teaching courses such as 'Physics II' and seminars on quantum technologies and nanophysics. He advises over 20 graduate students and collaborates with institutions like Heidelberg University and the Leibniz University Hannover. Notable achievements include pioneering work on all-optical neural networks and photonic tensor cores, published in Nature and Nature Photonics.
Lab facilities include the Münster Nanofabrication Facility, enabling advanced nanoscale device fabrication. Current research emphasizes photonic in-memory computing, quantum integrated devices (ORQUID project), and neuromorphic architectures (Fun-COMP).
