Wolfgang Schleich is a Chair-Professor of Theoretical Physics (W3) at the University of Ulm since 1991 and served as Acting Director of the German Aerospace Center's (DLR) Institute of Quantum Technologies (2019–2022). He holds a habilitation (1989) and PhD (1984) from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, focusing on quantum optics and relativity. His research spans theoretical quantum optics, cold atoms, quantum mechanics fundamentals, general relativity, number theory, statistical physics, and non-linear dynamics.
He authored Quantum Optics in Phase Space (2001) and co-edited multiple books including Elements of Quantum Information (2007). Over 410 journal publications and 11 reprinted articles highlight his contributions. Awards include the Leibniz Prize (1992), Max Planck Research Award (2002), and honorary memberships in prestigious academies.
Schleich advised 55 PhD students and 6 habilitations. He actively serves on editorial boards (e.g., Fortschritte der Physik), conference committees, and academic councils, including the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences (2009–2012). His teaching includes core theoretical physics courses at Ulm University.
