معرفی
Wolfgang Potthast is a Professor at the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics at the German Sport University Cologne. His research focuses on biomechanics, sports medicine, and orthopaedics, with particular emphasis on injury prevention, muscle mechanics, and joint loading in athletes and clinical populations. He has authored over 250 publications and led numerous projects funded by third parties, including studies on unloader braces, exoskeletons, and sports-related musculoskeletal health.
Key research areas include knee osteoarthritis biomechanics, gait analysis, cycling ergonomics, and sports injury mechanisms. He has received awards such as the Basic Research Award (2005) and New Investigator Award (2005). His work bridges clinical and athletic applications, addressing topics like footwear design, rehabilitation strategies, and sports performance optimization.
Recent projects include investigating load handling with back-supporting exoskeletons and evaluating the efficacy of surgical techniques for knee realignment. Collaborations span biomechanical modeling, machine learning applications in wearable sensors, and validation studies of sports equipment. He actively participates in academic activities, supervising master’s theses and organizing conferences like the German Society for Biomechanics.
Publications highlight advancements in muscle activity modulation, joint mechanics, and injury prevention. Media engagements include discussions on athlete health and sports biomechanics innovations.
