Foundation for research and technology-hellasمعرفی
Wolf von Klitzing is a Principal Researcher at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Systems (IESL) within the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH). He leads the BEC and Matter Waves group and, with Prof. Papazoglou, co-leads the Space Optics Laboratory. His work focuses on Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC), atomtronics, and matter-wave interferometry. Notably, his team produced the first BEC in South-Eastern Europe (2010) and pioneered fully-coherent atomtronic matter-wave guides. Current projects include developing quantum sensors for space applications (e.g., ESA-funded technologies for atomic interferometry in orbit) and optical communication between Earth and Low-Earth Orbit satellites.
Before joining FORTH, von Klitzing held positions at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (ENS Paris), La Sapienza University in Rome, and AMOLF in Amsterdam. His research spans cold atoms in rotating systems, atom-optical devices, and precision measurements for space instrumentation. He collaborates on initiatives like the AEDGE space gravity explorer and contributes to the ELGAR European laboratory for gravitation research.
Key technical innovations include bi-chromatic adiabatic shells for atom interferometry, time-averaged potentials for matter-wave trapping, and optical beam steering technologies for space missions. His work bridges fundamental quantum physics with applied technologies, targeting applications in gravitational physics, inertial sensing, and space exploration.
