Wolf Harmening

Dr. Wolf Harmening leads the Adaptive Optics and Vision Laboratory (AOVision Lab) at the University Eye Hospital Bonn, affiliated with the University of Bonn's Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on high-resolution imaging of the living human retina using adaptive optics technology to study retinal neuroarchitecture and visual function in health and disease. The lab is funded by the Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation.

Research topics include retinal imaging techniques, cone photoreceptor function, and the relationship between retinal structure and visual perception. Techniques involve super-high contrast imaging, real-time eye motion compensation, and targeted photoreceptor stimulation.

The AOVision Lab explores fundamental questions about human vision, including how retinal organization influences visual acuity and how disease alters retinal physiology. This work bridges clinical ophthalmology with neuroscience and biomedical engineering.
