Wolf B. Frommer

Wolf B. Frommer is a Research Professor at the Institute of Molecular Physiology, Heinrich Heine University. His research focuses on nutrient transport processes in plants, particularly carbohydrate transport mechanisms critical for crop yield and pathogen resistance. He develops fluorescent biosensors for real-time monitoring of small molecules and engineers transporter proteins to create broad-spectrum disease resistance in crops.

His primary research spans plant physiology, metabolism, and molecular biology with specific expertise in sugar transporters (SWEET family), plant-microbe interactions, and synthetic biology. His group investigates how transporters regulate microbiota colonization, plant fertility, and pathogen susceptibility using genome editing, single-cell transcriptomics, and protein engineering.
