Dr. Chan’s research focuses on World Anglophone Postcolonial Literature and British Literature after 1832. Her work explores intersections of cultural identity, literary form, and historical context, particularly in late 19th- to 21st-century British and global texts.
Her publications include contributions to major encyclopedias and a monograph on the economic dynamics of short stories in Victorian-era periodicals. These works reflect interests in Victorian Print Culture, Diaspora Narratives, and Modernist Urban Fiction, with a focus on transnational literary networks.
Dr. Chan has co-authored entries in the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Postcolonial Studies and Blackwell Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century Fiction, alongside her book The Economy of the Short Story in British Periodicals of the 1890s (Routledge, 2007).
