معرفی
Prof. Dr. Winfried Siffert is a faculty member at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he leads the Institute of Pharmacogenetics at the University Hospital Essen. His work integrates research, clinical diagnostics, and teaching in pharmacogenetics and clinical pharmacology.
His research focuses on genetic variants influencing disease susceptibility and drug response, particularly in cancer, cardiovascular disorders, and immune-related conditions. Key areas include polymorphisms in G proteins, BCL2, MTHFR, and GNAS, with implications for personalized therapy and adverse drug reaction prediction. His lab is ISO 9001:2015 certified and provides diagnostic genetic testing for drug metabolism genes such as NAT2, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, ApoE, DPYD, and UGT1A1.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend in cancer pharmacogenetics and genetic biomarkers for disease progression, especially in hematologic malignancies. His work bridges molecular genetics with clinical application, contributing significantly to evidence-based pharmacogenomic testing.
Prof. Siffert is actively involved in academic teaching, representing the subject of Clinical Pharmacology, and oversees a high-volume diagnostic service integrated into hospital workflows via the medico system. His institute plays a key role in implementing pharmacogenetic testing prior to drug therapies such as lecanemab, mavacamten, and fluoropyrimidines, in line with regulatory recommendations.
He leads the Institute of Pharmacogenetics, which operates within the Medical Research Center at the University Hospital Essen, combining research innovation with routine diagnostics and educational outreach.
