Wim Annaert

Wim Annaert serves as Full Professor in the Department of Neurosciences at KU Leuven and leads a research group at the VIB-Center for Brain & Disease Research in Belgium. He has held these positions since 2012 and 2001 respectively, with additional leadership roles including Co-Director of the VIB-KU Leuven Center for the Biology of Disease (2007-2015).

His research focuses on molecular neurobiology with specialization in Alzheimer's disease mechanisms. Dr. Annaert investigates membrane contact site biology, APP metabolism, and the function of gamma-secretase and presenilins in amyloid production. His laboratory employs advanced techniques including proteomics/lipidomics of isolated organelles and super-resolution microscopy with correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).

Dr. Annaert's scientific contributions have been recognized with multiple prestigious awards including the Fund Bonmariage de Bouyalski prize (2018) and the Antoine Faes Award (2004). His research on dementia-related conditions has received significant funding through these awards.
