Wilson Prichard

Wilson Prichard is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and Department of Political Science. He also serves as CEO of the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI) and is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). His work focuses on taxation, state-building, and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on equitable revenue systems and their political implications.

Prichard holds a Ph.D. and MPhil from the Institute of Development Studies and a BA from Harvard University. His research bridges academic and policy domains, collaborating with governments, civil society, and international organizations like the World Bank and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals, and Sustainable Development.

His research interests include tax reform dynamics, aid effectiveness, and the political economy of taxation in developing states. Recent projects include advising on property tax reforms in Sierra Leone and leading the World Bank’s Innovations in Tax Compliance program. His work emphasizes translating academic insights into actionable policy solutions.

Prichard has received notable awards such as the 50th Anniversary Commonwealth Scholarship and the Centre for the Future State Fellowship. His publications, including Taxing Africa and Taxation, Responsiveness, and Accountability, explore taxation’s role in fostering accountable governance and equitable development.

He teaches courses on African politics, development policy, and global public policy analysis. His advisory roles include the BEPS and Mining program’s Advisory Board, reflecting his engagement with international tax reform initiatives.
