William Wylie is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Mathematics at Syracuse University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Riemannian geometry and geometric analysis, with particular emphasis on Ricci solitons, Einstein metrics, positive curvature, and curvature for manifolds with density. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California (2006), an M.A. from the same institution (2003), and a B.S. in Mathematics & Computer Science from Providence College (2001).
Wylie has led or co-led multiple NSF-funded research grants, including the Annual New York State Regional Graduate Mathematics Conference (2025–2028) and projects on aspects of Riemannian geometry and manifolds with density. His work bridges pure mathematics and theoretical physics, addressing topics like black hole geometries and geometric flows. Recent research highlights include rigidity theorems for static near-horizon geometries and advances in warped product Einstein metrics.
