William Wheeler is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University, affiliated with the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences within the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. His research focuses on crop physiology and environmental sensing, with a specialization in low-field MRI in-field root phenotyping. He collaborates closely with Professor Nithya Rajan and contributes to Texas A&M AgriLife Research initiatives.
Dr. Wheeler holds a Ph.D. in Soil and Crop Sciences from Utah State University (2020). His work integrates sensor technologies to optimize irrigation practices, reduce water stress in crops, and mitigate root diseases in nursery and greenhouse systems. He has published extensively on automated irrigation systems, sensor-based monitoring, and plant-water relations.
His research trends emphasize precision agriculture, with studies demonstrating how soil moisture sensors and automated irrigation systems enhance crop resilience and disease suppression in woody ornamentals, floriculture, and fruit trees.
