Terry's work examines labor dynamics in tourism, including guest worker programs (J-1/H-2B visas), migrant seafarers in the cruise industry, and volunteer tourism initiatives like WWOOF-USA. His 2022 book Be Our Guest analyzes temporary labor solutions in U.S. hospitality sectors.
Recent publications highlight spatial relationships in tourism infrastructure (2018), precarity in guest work (2017), and the intersection of social reproduction with tourism labor (2016). He also explores cultural topics such as the 'perfect worker' narrative for Filipino seafarers (2014) and Charleston's cruise ship controversies (2015).
