Professor William Tapper is a faculty member at the University of Southampton, leading the Genomic Informatics research group within the Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine department. He holds a Professorship in the Institute of Developmental Sciences and is actively involved in both research and teaching.
His research focuses on identifying genetic variants influencing disease risk and clinical outcomes, leveraging techniques like next-generation sequencing (NGS), genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and polygenic risk scores (PRS). Current projects include long-term follow-up of breast cancer cohorts, developing pancreatic cancer risk scores, and investigating therapy resistance in sarcomas.
Teaching responsibilities include module leadership for MSc Genomics programs and contributing to undergraduate Medicine (BM5) courses. He supervises MSc, PhD, and iPhD students, emphasizing genomic technologies and bioinformatics.
