William Oberkampf

William Oberkampf is an Adjunct Professor in the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech. He holds a PhD (1970) and B.S. (1966) from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.S. (1968) from the University of Texas at Austin. His expertise spans verification/validation methodologies, uncertainty quantification, computational fluid dynamics, and experimental aerodynamics.

Professional service includes roles as Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Chair of AIAA's Publication Ethical Standards Subcommittee, and member of NAFEMS. He served at Sandia National Laboratories from 1979-2007, culminating as Distinguished Member Technical Staff in validation and uncertainty estimation. Since 2008, he has operated as an independent engineering consultant for U.S. and European organizations.
