Dr. William Marsh is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI). He is a core member of the Machine Intelligence and Decision Systems (MInDS) Research Group, focusing on Bayesian networks for decision support in medicine and safety engineering. His teaching includes postgraduate/undergraduate modules on Embedded Systems and Statistics for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
Research Interests: His work centers on combining data and expert knowledge to improve decision-making in medical contexts (e.g., trauma care, forensic psychiatry) and safety-critical systems (e.g., railways). Notable projects include the COMBAT-AID initiative (US DoD-funded AI tools for battlefield trauma care) and collaborations with clinical groups on musculoskeletal condition management and risk assessment.
Collaborations & Grants: Collaborations span clinical partners (Trauma Sciences, Forensic Psychiatry) and industry (rail safety). He leads projects like OSIRIS (high-risk surgical patient decision support) and RealmAI (MSK condition management under Newton Links funding).
PhD Supervision: Current and past students include researchers in Bayesian network applications (e.g., trauma prediction, forensic risk assessment) now in academia, industry, and healthcare roles.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles on Bayesian networks, clinical decision support, and risk modeling. Recent work emphasizes explainable AI, predictive accuracy in trauma care, and digital health equity.
Outreach: Engages in K-12 education through workshops on computing careers and technology ethics, emphasizing hands-on learning and informed STEM choices.
