Rev. Dr. William Loyd Allen serves as the Sylvan Hills Baptist Church Chair of Baptist Heritage and Professor of Church History and Spiritual Formation at Mercer University's McAfee School of Theology, where he has been a founding faculty member since its establishment. His career includes prior teaching positions at Mississippi College (as head of the Christianity department) and Southern Seminary.
His academic credentials include:

- MDiv in Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1978)
- BS in Counseling and Psychology from University of Montevallo (1974)
