Dr. William Kenney is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 2015. His research focuses on aquatic ecology, nutrient cycling, and sediment core studies, with expertise in gamma spectroscopy and Pb-210 dating techniques. Dr. Kenney’s work examines anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems, including nutrient enrichment effects on lakes and coastal environments. He is affiliated with the Land Use and Environmental Change Institute (LUECI), which investigates human-driven environmental changes. His studies combine biogeochemical and radiometric analyses of sediment cores to trace long-term ecological shifts. Key areas of interest include water quality dynamics, eutrophication, and climate change impacts on coastal and lacustrine systems. Recent projects involve sediment records of cultural eutrophication in Tampa Bay and legacy metal contaminant recovery in Northeast US surface waters.
