William G. Nomikos is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), directing the Data-driven Analysis of Peace Project (DAPP) lab. His research focuses on how domestic political dynamics influence international interventions, particularly UN peacekeeping operations, and their effectiveness in fragile states. His work integrates field experiments, surveys, and computational methods to analyze communal violence, peacebuilding, and the impact of climate change on conflict.
He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University (2019). His book, Local Peace, International Builders: How the UN Builds Peace from the Bottom Up (2025, Cambridge University Press), examines how UN peacekeepers mitigate communal violence through perceptions of impartiality. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Politics, Journal of Peace Research, and Nature: Humanities and Social Sciences Communication.
Nomikos has received awards including the Best Paper Presented at APSA 2022 and Honorable Mention at SPSA 2023. He teaches courses on peacekeeping, climate change and conflict, and quantitative methods. His lab, DAPP, collaborates on projects related to international security, conflict processes, and peacebuilding.
