William Foley is a Professor in the Division of Ecology and Evolution at ANU College of Science. He holds a B. Nat Res (Hons) and PhD from the University of New England (UNE). His career includes postdoctoral positions in Israel, French Guiana, and Monash University before joining ANU in 1997. His research focuses on plant-animal interactions, nutritional ecology, and chemical ecology, with applications in remote sensing and population genetics.
Education: B. Nat Res (Hons) (1985, UNE), PhD (UNE). Research interests include toxin tolerance in herbivores, plant secondary metabolites, and the ecological impacts of climate change. His work spans diverse taxa from primates to marsupials, with a strong emphasis on Eucalyptus and Myrtaceae species.
Recent articles highlight his work on primate habitat modeling, temperature effects on feeding behavior, and genomic studies of plant defense mechanisms. He contributes to journals like Journal of Chemical Ecology and serves on editorial boards. His projects involve collaborations on genomic prediction, myrtle rust resistance, and Eucalyptus terpene diversity.
