William F. Regine

William F. Regine is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland. He is also Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Interim Chair of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine, and Executive Director of the Maryland Proton Treatment Center (MPTC). With a focus on gastrointestinal and central nervous system malignancies, he leads a department ranked top 5 nationally for NIH funding.

Dr. Regine’s research spans pancreatic cancer, brain metastases, sarcomas, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and proton therapy. His work on adjuvant therapies for pancreatic cancer and SRS for brain tumors has redefined clinical standards. He co-edited the seminal textbook Principles and Practice of Stereotactic Radiosurgery and co-invented the GammaPod for breast cancer treatment.

His recent publications highlight advancements in GRID therapy for sarcomas, proton re-irradiation, and management of malignant fistulae. Key awards include the American Cancer Society MileOne Visionary Award (2021), Teacher of the Year (2016), and recognition in Best Doctors in America since 2002.
