William Ensign is a Professor of Biology at Kennesaw State University within the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology. He teaches courses including Vertebrate Zoology, Ecology, Ichthyology, and Quantitative Methods.
His research focuses on aquatic ecology, with expertise in fish diversity, distribution, and abundance in freshwater streams and rivers. Key projects include studying trout populations in the southern Appalachians, impacts of stream modifications on endangered species like the Roanoke logperch, bioassessment applications of fish community structure, and effects of human barriers on fish movement. He has ongoing contracts with water authorities in Paulding and Cobb Counties for bioassessment initiatives.
Recent investigations include pleurocerid snails in the Etowah River basin and ecological studies of Largescale Stoneroller (Campostoma oligolepis) in urban streams.
