William "Doug" Singsen is an Associate Professor in the Art and Design Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, holding a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center (2013). His expertise spans modern and contemporary art, comics and graphic novels, and decolonizing art history.

Research Interests focus on the intersection of mass culture, subcultures, and avant-garde traditions, with particular emphasis on American comics, activist art, and decolonizing methodologies. His seminal work The Invisible Costume: Whiteness and the Construction of Race in American Comics (2022), co-authored with Joe Benson, critically examines racial representation in comics. Current projects include a global art history textbook for Oxford University Press.
