William Chaplin serves as Professor and Assistant Chair of Psychology in St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at St. John's University. He joined the faculty in January 2004 after holding positions at the University of Illinois, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama.
Chaplin earned his A.B. in psychology from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford in personality psychology. His academic journey includes sabbaticals at Dalhousie University and New York University, and he served as a visiting professor at Phillips University in Marburg, Germany.
His research focuses on personality psychology with specialized expertise in psychometrics and advanced data analysis techniques. Chaplin's work emphasizes longitudinal data analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, mediational models, and the analysis of latent variables. He has developed methodologies for analyzing data from mixed-design studies that combine qualitative experimental variables with quantitative naturalistic ones.
