William C. Torrey, MD, is Chair and Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and also holds a professorship at The Dartmouth Institute. He serves as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and holds the Raymond Sobel Professorship in Psychiatry, reflecting his leadership and academic excellence. His primary affiliation is with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Dr. Torrey earned his AB from Dartmouth College in 1980 and his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1985. His professional journey has been dedicated to advancing psychiatric care, particularly for adults with severe mental illnesses.
His research is centered on psychiatric rehabilitation and the implementation of evidence-based practices in mental health care.
