Dr. William C. Hahn is the William Rosenberg Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medical Oncology at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is also an Institute Member at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. In addition to his academic roles, he serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Dana-Farber, highlighting his leadership in both research and administration.
His research focuses on the molecular basis of cancer, particularly using functional genomics to identify and validate therapeutic targets. The Hahn Lab has developed systematic approaches to map cancer dependencies, study mutational processes, and understand resistance mechanisms in cancers such as pancreatic and lung cancer.
Dr. Hahn’s recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on cancer dependency mapping, mutational landscapes (especially in TP53 and KRAS), tumor metabolism, and the impact of the microenvironment on therapy response. His work integrates large-scale genomic data with experimental validation, contributing to initiatives like the Cancer Dependency Map and the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia.
His scientific honors include:
- Wilson S. Stone Award (2000)
- Howard Temin Award (2001)
- Ho-Am Prize in Medicine (2010)
- Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Award from AACR (2015)
- Claire and Richard Morse Award (2019)
- Hope Funds Award of Excellence in Medicine (2023)
He has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and the National Academy of Inventors. Dr. Hahn has led major collaborative grants and research networks, including the Cancer Target Discovery and Development Network. He mentors a large research team and contributes to training the next generation of cancer scientists. His lab, the Hahn Lab, is actively engaged in developing preclinical models and functional genomic tools to accelerate precision oncology.
