William Bertsche is Reader in Accelerator Physics at the University of Manchester's School of Physics and Astronomy and the Cockcroft Institute. As Deputy Spokesperson of the ALPHA Collaboration at CERN, he studies fundamental properties of antimatter through precision measurements of trapped antihydrogen.
His research focuses on plasma physics and accelerator technologies for antihydrogen synthesis, trapping, and measurement. Current work includes gravitational studies of antimatter and development of novel particle sources.
Bertsche teaches 'Physics of Energy Sources' and supervises graduate research in particle acceleration and plasma physics. He coordinates technical operations for antihydrogen experiments advancing tests of fundamental symmetries.
