William Ackah

Dr. William Ackah is a Reader in Social Sciences and African Diaspora Studies, and Senior Lecturer in Black and Community Geographies at Birkbeck, University of London. He holds a PhD in Government from the University of Manchester and is a Fulbright Research Award recipient. His research focuses on religion and politics in Africa and the diaspora, Pan-Africanism, anti-racist pedagogy, and race equality policy.
Education: PhD in Government (University of Manchester). Professional roles include Chair of the Transatlantic Roundtable on Religion and Race, and Chair of Birkbeck's Decolonising the Academy Collective. He co-edits The Black PhD Experience (2024) and leads initiatives supporting Black PhD students through the African Diaspora Postgraduate Network.
- Research Interests: Spatial dimensions of African diasporic cultures, black church activism, decolonial methodologies, and transnational racial justice.
- Awards: Fulbright Research Award.
- Outreach: Media commentator on racism in UK higher education, speaker at international forums on race and religion, and advisor on AP African Diaspora curriculum design in the USA.
His work bridges academia and activism, addressing systemic inequities through policy critique and community engagement.
