William A. Miller is a Lecturer at the University of Tennessee since August 2018 and serves as a BTRIC Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory since November 1979. His expertise spans thermal fluid sciences, building science, and energy-efficient construction. Miller holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee (1998), an MS (1980), and a BS (1978) from the same institution.
Research interests include heat transfer in building envelopes, energy storage systems, and sustainable design innovations. His work focuses on thermal performance of roofs, attics, and advanced materials for energy efficiency. Notable contributions include studies on sealed attics, solar reflectance in roofing, and energy-saving home designs.
Miller has received the R&D 100 Award for the Roof Saving Calculator and the ASME 1999 Best Paper Award. His publications explore topics like thermal resistance of tile roofs, field studies on energy-efficient homes, and heat transfer in commercial structures. He is affiliated with ASHRAE, ASME, and other professional societies.
His research collaborations include ORNL and industry partners, addressing challenges in thermal dynamics, building science, and renewable energy integration.
