Will Hanley is an Associate Professor of History at Florida State University, specializing in Middle Eastern History, Legal History, and Digital Humanities. He received his doctorate from Princeton University after studying at the Universities of Saskatchewan, Toronto, Jordan, and Oxford.
His research examines Cairo and Istanbul as capitals of international law between 1870-1920, with notable publications including Identifying with Nationality: Europeans, Ottomans, and Egyptians in Alexandria (Columbia University Press, 2017). He directs the Digital Egyptian Gazette project and teaches courses on Middle East history, digital methods, and socio-legal history.
