Wiep Staal is a Lecturer and Course Manager at Leiden University of Applied Sciences, where she has served since 2001. Initially leading the Social Pedagogical Support program, she transitioned in 2014 to manage the Master's program in Youth Care while coordinating the Social Domain Workshop across The Hague and Leiden – an initiative dedicated to connecting professional practice with academic education.
Her professional focus centers on transformative coaching methodologies and organizational change, with expertise in measuring and reducing team workload through evidence-based frameworks. She has developed three core educational modules – 'Individual Coaching for Colleagues', 'Guided Intervision', and 'Team Coaching' – that integrate vitality, resilience, and diversity principles. Her work emphasizes that 'diversity creates brilliance, challenge, balance, complementarity, and reinforcement', directly informing her approach to connecting academic theory with social domain practice.
As an educator, she leverages nineteen years of frontline experience across youth care, disability services, and mental healthcare to teach in Bachelor's Social Work, Master's Youth Care, and post-HBO programs. Her methodology focuses on trust-based collaboration where 'alone you can go far, but together you go further', demonstrated through coaching 33 teams at the Anton Constandse Foundation toward independent work units and supporting labor-market integration at her university.
Through the Social Domain Workshop, she creates dynamic pathways between classroom learning and professional environments, emphasizing safety, responsibility, and deepening professional practice. This platform enables students to engage directly with real-world challenges in youth care while developing practical change methodologies under her guidance.
