Wiebke Möbius

Dr. Wiebke Möbius is a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Department of Neurogenetics, and Head of the Electron Microscopy Group. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Bonn (1998), followed by postdoctoral research in the Netherlands and Germany. Her work focuses on myelinating glia cell biology, axo-glia interactions, and myelin biogenesis, using advanced electron microscopy techniques such as FIB-SEM. She investigates mechanisms underlying myelin maintenance, turnover, and neurodegenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis and spastic paraplegia type 2.

Research highlights include developing protocols for ultrastructural preservation and immunoelectron microscopy, as well as using cryopreparation and X-ray tomography for myelin analysis. Her lab explores myelin dynamics in health and disease, emphasizing structural-functional relationships.
