Whitney Behr serves as Full Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at ETH Zurich, holding the Professorship of Structural Geology and Tectonics within the Geological Institute. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, she oversees departmental operations while maintaining active research and teaching responsibilities.
Her research centers on structural geology and tectonics, investigating crustal deformation mechanisms, fault mechanics, and the evolution of geological structures across mountain belts and plate boundaries. She examines rock rheology under stress and the temporal-spatial development of tectonic features through field studies and laboratory analyses.
Professor Behr teaches foundational and advanced courses including Fundamentals of Geology I (Earth's Interior), Fundamentals of Geology II (Surface of the Earth), Tectonics, and a Research Seminar in Structural Geology and Tectonics. She leads an active research group focused on advancing tectonic process understanding through international collaborations and field investigations.
