Wesley B. Chaney is an Associate Professor of History at Bates College, specializing in the environmental, social, and legal history of the Qing Empire (1644-1912). He holds a Ph.D. in History from Stanford University, an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford, and a B.A. in History from Davidson College.

Chaney advises senior theses on topics like Chinese migration, CCP rural policies, and the Silk Roads. He actively engages in community-engaged learning and equity initiatives at Bates.
