Prof. Dr. Werner Schiffauer is a Senior Scholar at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), where he holds the Chair of Comparative Cultural and Social Anthropology. His research focuses on Turkish migration to Europe, the transformation of rural and urban Türkiye, European Islam, and the organization of diversity in European societies. Born in 1951, he studied Education and Social Anthropology at the Free University of Berlin, earned his doctorate there in 1986, and completed his habilitation at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in 1991. He has held academic positions at Goethe University (1983-1987, 1987-1993) and Humboldt University of Berlin (1993-1995), and served as Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (1999-2001).
