Wenshan Wu is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), and a Visiting Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) through the NCI-UMD partnership program. His research focuses on Deep Learning applications in bioinformatics, spatial transcriptomics, and wearable healthcare technologies. He is advised by Prof. Erin Molloy and Dr. Joe Nguyen at UMD, and previously worked with Prof. Cuntai Guan at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
His research interests include leveraging machine learning for health monitoring (e.g., smartphone-based heart rate detection) and computational biology (e.g., protein prediction algorithms). He has published in high-impact journals like Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine and PROTEOMICS, with work spanning biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, and medical imaging.
Wenshan’s recent studies emphasize overcoming clinical validation challenges in wearable sensor applications and advancing neuroimaging segmentation via novel data augmentation strategies. While no formal scientific awards are listed, his work reflects contributions to healthcare technology and computational biology.
He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at NCI and UMD, focusing on translational research at the intersection of AI and medicine. His academic journey includes undergraduate studies in Computer Science at NTU under Prof. Cuntai Guan’s mentorship.
