Wenhui Wang, M.D. is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at New York Medical College's School of Medicine. With an M.D. from Harbin Medical University, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Innsbruck (1987-1993) and Yale University School of Medicine, where he developed innovative split-open tubule models for studying renal ion channels. His laboratory focuses on renal potassium channels and their role in body potassium homeostasis, with particular emphasis on Kir4.1/Kir5.1 heteromers and their involvement in EAST/SeSAME syndrome pathophysiology.
- Education: M.D., Harbin Medical University
- Career: University of Innsbruck (1987-1993) → Yale University (1987-1993) → NYMC Department of Pharmacology (current)
Current research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health explore: (1) Kir4.1 regulation of Na+/K+ transport via WNK-SPAK pathways, and (2) CYP2C44-mediated EET regulation of epithelial Na+ channels. Recent publications demonstrate his expertise in renal ion transport mechanisms and their clinical relevance to electrolyte imbalance disorders and hypertension. Collaborative work spans institutions in Austria, USA, and China.
